Older technology, which is far less dependable, relies on the thermostat reading the temperature directly from the steam tank. As the steam tank expands and contracts the accuracy of the temperature reading is compromised. This can lead to the pump supplying water to the tank when no water is needed, resulting in over-filling or leaking.
